Drop Board Retainers | Test Installation

I originally intended to fasten the drop board retainers in place with countersunk bronze wood screws and bronze screw cups, but it turns out that bronze screw cups do not exist.

Screw cups are decorative, easily available in brass for use in dry places. But they are not suitable for external use because they hold water, so therefore not available in bronze.

Advice from the excellent chandler at Classic Marine was to use marine grade round headed screws with washers, which sounded great.

I will have to purchase these new fastenings when I make the final fitting, but for now I wanted to do a final test installation so I used some plain steel fastenings to check the fit.

This is what it looked like.

The fastenings are  1" 8 gauge round headed wood screws and 4mm washers.

That looks pretty good to me!

Part way through this I decided to use stainless steel fastenings, in keeping with the rest of the hardware on the outside of the boat, so that's what we will do.

Onwards and upwards.
