Fibreglass Tape | Filling The Weave

Heavyweight fibreglass tape is used to cover the join between the the side and topside panels, and the fillet between the cockpit deck and the rear cabin wall.

It is 9 ounce cloth, rather than the 6 ounce cloth used in the rest of the boat to cover panels. But the additional weight makes it a lot bulkier, with a very pronounced weave in the fabric.

It took two or three coats of clear resin to fill the weave, sanding between coats.

Here is the tape on the starboard cabin side, awaiting sanding.

And here is a close up of the sanded tape.

You can clearly see the weave.

It may require fairing with filler when we paint the cabin interior. We will see.
